The pipe hawk
and the tomahawk are a result of a request from a very good customer.
I had previously made a large damascus buffalo hunter knife complete
with curly buffalo hide sheath for this customer. After recieving
the buffalo knife he then asked me if I ever thought of making a
tomahawk or a pipe hawk. To be
truthful the answer was no, but I thought what the Hell, I can do
this.
Both pieces
are forged from wrought iron (wagon wheel tire) and 15N20 and 1095
HC. The handles are made of Hickory and rawhide wrapped and detailed
down to include the adornments that was very much part of the early
American Indian and the Frontier way of life.
Whether it
be a hide, a scalp, an eagle feather, beads, teeth or brass tacks,
each item that is adorned on the handles has a very definite purpose
and meaning to the individual piece just as it did to the
original Indian. I have tried to bring justice to the whole concept
of the orignal hawks as well as the damascus steel.
Each piece has its own story and can
only be told from the makers original idea behind each endeavor.
